More Information and About Us

We are a family run campsite, based on a small Dartmoor farm.
Cockingford campsite is made up of three fields with the East Webburn river running along the bottom, and was started over 100 years ago by the same family who run it now.

Dogs are very welcome, but must be kept on leads and not brought over to the farm as we have farm dogs and cats, who are very friendly, but sometimes get bothered by other animal visitors.
Walk to the top of the third field for wonderful views through the Widecombe valley and up to the moors. Beautiful for sun sets and star gazing, there are benches and a picnic bench situated up there.
We are very happy to charge e-bike batteries over at the farmhouse - please ask one of us to arrange this.

Over at the farm we have a small, self service farm shop selling eggs, milk, butter, clotted cream, ice cream, pasties, meat, local craft and more.
We offer fire bowls to hire and bags of wood to purchase. You can add these to your booking on the booking page or ordered during your stay.
We do gas bottle swaps too. Please ask if you need a new bottle to see what we have in stock.

What is near by?
Widecombe village is a half hour walk from the campsite. There is a footpath which cuts off the corner of the hill and takes you to the main road into the village.
The village has 2 pubs (we recommend booking), a cafe, three gift shops and a kiosk on the green.
The Widecombe market is open every Thursday and every 4th Saturday and is well worth a visit.

Ashburton and Bovey Tracey are our nearest towns. Both have Chinese, Indian and Fish and chip takeaways as well as different restaurants. Both have lovely shops to explore - Ashburton is known for its antique shops!
Both towns have outdoor swimming pools and small supermarkets.

The moors can be accessed by walking in either direction out of the campsite. Buckland beacon with the 10 commandments is a great visit. Either set off for a big walk or you can drive to Cold East Cross and walk a shorter distance from there. Turning the other way takes you past many great stopping points across the moors and also takes you towards Princetown and Tavistock.
Click here to download a family friendly walking route from the campsite, up over the moor to the village and then back to the campsite via the country lanes.

Trago Mills is 20 minutes away and offers lots of attractions for all the family and has big shopping store full of all sorts, including camping equipment!
